Newport Police Log: Gotta Have 'FAITH', Drug Conspiracy, 3 Other Arrests

The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Faith M. Peterson, 20, of Newport, was arrested around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, for domestic vandalism and domestic simple assault charges.

Peterson reportedly went to the victim’s home while he was sleeping, entered and threw his laptop on the floor. His cousin was also there, who witnessed Peterson damage the laptop.

When the victim came out, she began swinging at him and hit him in the head and back, reports said.

A neighbor told police she heard Peterson yelling after she went outside.

The two men called police after Peterson left the residence and reportedly keyed “FAITH” onto the hood of the victim’s car.

Man turns himself in on drug conspiracy charge

Brian W. Neal, 31, of 85 Park Holm, Newport, was arrested around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, for a conspiracy to distribute narcotics charge.

Last December, members of the Newport Vice Narcotics Unit made a controlled drug purchase from another man who was allegedly conspiring with Neal.

Neal turned himself in to police on Tuesday.

Newport man faces two domestic charges

Richard P. Marley, 45, of Newport, was arrested around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, for domestic assault by strangulation and domestic refusal of a telephone charges.

Police were dispatched to his home for a reported assault in progress.

The victim told police she went to Marley’s home for dinner. When she arrived he was verbally aggressive and choked her, reports said. She was able to free herself and denied medical treatment.

According to police reports, Marley became angry when the victim came to his house and appeared to be drunk.

Warrant arrests

  • John T. Weiderman, 31, 10 Burnside Ave., Newport, was arrested around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, for an active warrant for failure to appear in court. He was originally charged with fraudulent checks.  
  • Jackie W. Baker, 42, of Newport, was arrested around 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, for a simple assault charge. He turned himself in for an active warrant on Tuesday after an incident last February, where he allegedly assaulted his daughter.
