Newport Police Recover Items From Car Break-Ins, Arrest Two
Police arrested two suspects who allegedly ransacked cars on Harrison Avenue, Gilroy Street and Anthony Court.

NEWPORT, RI — Police on Thursday arrested two suspects who allegedly ransacked cars on Harrison Avenue, Gilroy Street and Anthony Court. According to the arrest report, a homeowner called at 1:22 a.m. on Nov. 30 to say he saw a man sitting in the driver's seat of his wife's car. He chased him and another man down the street before he lost them.
Officers responded and ultimately found two suspects answering the resident's description. They were hiding in a side yard on Morgan Street. Aaron Pellicano, 18, of Newport, and Jared Smith, 28, of Mattapoisett, Mass., were arrested at 1:50 a.m. Police said the two were caught with backpacks, which police emptied to find some items that had been reported stolen, including an Acer laptop and a large Patagonia jacket. They also found sunglasses, a gray hat, white Apple earbuds, a while USB cable for an iPhone, a metal Phillips head bit, $22.05 in change and $40.84 in change; a St. Andrews golf ball marker, a pink children's float, a white Samsung Galaxy cellphone; wooden rosary beads with a cross; razors; and other items. They also found an Army knife in Pellicano's possession.
He was charged with eight misdemeanors, including Weapons other than firearms prohibited; Conspiracy; and six counts of Injuring or tampering with vehicles.

Smith was charged with nine offenses, including Receiving stolen goods; Conspiracy; six counts of Injuring or tampering with vehicles; and a bench warrant.
