Newport Teachers Reach Agreement On Parent-Teacher Conferences

The district on Monday announced the teachers and the district have reached an agreement on the times for parent-teacher conferences.

NEWPORT, RIThe district on Monday announced the teachers and the Newport schools have reached an agreement on the times for parent-teacher conferences. The district wanted 1 to 6 p.m. to accommodate the parents, but the union objected and took an advertisement over the weekend to announce different times. Ultimately, the district said, the teachers' union agreed to the 1 to 6 time frame. Patch did ask for the terms of the agreement with the union. The district did not respond.

The March 13 conferences, which were planned for Rogers High, had to be postponed because of the blizzard. But the Pell School conferences are set for Wednesday, March 14, and Thompson School conferences are set for Thursday, March 16. The buildings will be open at 12:30 p.m.

"Conference sign up forms are posted on all schools’ websites, as well as the main Newport Public Schools website, and through the resource folder of the One Newport app," the district said. "If you have not received a conference time, please email your child’s teacher or his or her principal for assistance. This will be a no school day for students."
