Obituary: Naomi M. Cooper, 88

Naomi M. Cooper, 88, of Newport, died Saturday, February 27, 2016 at John Clarke Health Care Center of Middletown, RI. Naomi was born September 10, 1927 in Stanhope, Durham County, England. She is the daughter of the late Daniel and Elizabeth McCallum. She was the wife of the late James P. Cooper.

Naomi moved to the US after WW2, but was widowed at a young age. She moved to Newport in the 1970s and raised her four boys. She enjoyed her work as a nurses aid at Newport Hospital through the 1970s and 1980s. She also enjoyed gardening at home.

She is survived by three sons: Derek P. Cooper of Maryland, Nicholas Cooper and his wife Elizabeth of Newport, Anthony J.M. Cooper and his companion Gail Haskell of Newport, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Paul H. Cooper, and her siblings, Frank, Gordon, Colin and Margaret.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 3 at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be private.
