Portsmouth Man Faces Felony Domestic Charge after Newport Break-In

Police said he climbed through a window and smashed a woman's cell phone.

NEWPORT, RI—A 24-year-old Portsmouth man was charged with felony domestic breaking and entering and domestic vandalism on Thursday after he climbed through a Newport woman's window and smashed her phone.

Police said Angel J. Robles Maldonado, of 238 Glen Road, Portsmouth, allegedly tried to contact the woman several times during the day before he went to her Newport apartment at around 7 p.m.

The victim told police that she was upstairs talking on her phone and when she went downstairs, Maldonado was walking up the stairs. They argued, according to a police report, and Maldonado grabbed her phone and threw it against the wall, causing the screen to shatter.
