Gabe Amo Wins U.S. Congress Seat In RI Race, Becomes 1st Black Candidate To Win
Ex-White House aide Gabe Amo became the first Black candidate in Rhode Island history to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

NEWPORT, RI — Former White House aide Gabe Amo will be the next U.S. Congressman to represent Rhode Island's first congressional district, the Associated Press reported.
Amo defeated Republican U.S. Marine veteran Gerry Leonard in Tuesday's showdown, becoming the first Black candidate in Rhode Island history to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
"Undoubtedly, I’m humbled by the real momentous opportunity to serve as the first person of color,” Amo told The Associated Press. "But I didn’t run to make history."

The first congressional district represents Barrington, Bristol, Warren, Jamestown, Little Compton, Middletown, Newport, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Central Falls, Cumberland, East Providence, Lincoln, North Providence, North Smithfield, Pawtucket, Smithfield, Woonsocket, and parts of Providence.
