RI: Wind Advisory For SE Providence County & Points South

The advisory lasts until 5 p.m.

Although the sun came out and the wind died down (compared to Friday's gusts), it's still a pretty fierce wind in much of Rhode Island. Southeast Providence County, Kent, Bristol, Newport and Washington counties are under a wind advisory until 5 p.m. Saturday. There are two separate advisories. One covers Newport and Bristol. The second is for the other impacted areas. The difference is the gusts in Newport and Bristol are stronger.

* Location...Including the cities of Gloucester, Plymouth, Fall
River, New Bedford, Mattapoisett, Bristol, Newport, and New
Shoreham.

* Winds...North 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.

* Timing...Strong winds will continue through the afternoon.

* Impacts...These strong winds may result in some additional
tree damage and isolated power outages...but not nearly to the
extend of yesterday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph are
expected, with gusts between 46 to 57 mph. Winds this strong are
capable of downing small tree limbs and branches, possibly
causing isolated power outages. Driving can also be difficult,
especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a Wind
Advisory, which is in effect until 5 PM EST this afternoon.

* Location...Including the Boston to Providence corridor of
eastern MA and Rhode Island.

* Winds...North 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* Timing...Strong winds will continue through the afternoon.

* Impacts...These strong winds may result in some additional tree
damage and isolated power outages...but not nearly to the extent
of yesterday.
