NEWPORT, RI—Families who need some help sorting out the college financial aid process should consider stopping by Rogers High School on Wed., Jan. 13 at 6 p.m.
College Goal Rhode Island will be hosting a free workshop to help families apply and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FASFA. Students interested in attending a postsecondary institution who need financial assistance to pay for college should attend. It is recommended that dependent students bring their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) with them to the session. Students should also bring the parent’s completed 2015 federal tax return (if completed), 2015 W-2 forms and all other 2015 income and benefits information. In addition, if students worked during 2015, they should bring their completed 2015 federal tax return and any other income information. Students 24 years or older may attend alone and bring their own completed 2015 tax forms or other 2015 income and benefits information.
Each student and Parent needs to secure a FSA ID prior to completing the FAFSA. Prior to the College Goal RI events, students and parents should go tofsaid.ed.gov to create their FSA ID. This is a new requirement for the 2016 FAFSA. The FSA ID replaces the PIN. For additional information and to pre-register for the event, visit www.collegegoalri.org.
