Thompson Musicians Recognized for Being Music Masters
A group of student musicians were accepted into a prestigious music honor society.

A group of musicians at Frank E. Thompson Middle School are got some well-deserved recognition recently for their acceptance into the prestigious Tri-M Music Honor Society.
Tri-M, which stands for “modern music masters,” is a national organization sponsored by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). There are currently 1,700 chapters nationwide. The students are requested to act as leaders and mentors in their music classes, attend monthly meetings, and complete two service projects during the school year. This program is made possible by a grant from the Newport Public Education Foundation.
After a rigorous application process, twenty six TMS students in grades 6 through 8 were admitted into the society. Aspiring Tri-M students were required to be outstanding members of their school’s music ensembles, maintain a B average in all music classes and a C average overall, perform an audition piece, and submit a short application essay. Advisor Brianna DeWitt is excited to begin working with the Tri-M students in after-school meetings, and to begin planning and implementing service projects in the community. The Tri-M chapter will have an official induction ceremony in January.
