Women Fight At Festival Field Parking Lot: Newport Police

A woman was charged with felony assault after she allegedly hit another woman with a metal baseball bat.

NEWPORT, RI — Solmary Cruz Carrillo, 33, of Newport, was charged April 17 at 8:01 p.m. with felony assault in connection with a fight in the Festival Field apartments parking lot. According to the arrest narrative, the victim came into the police station and complained she had just been assaulted. The weapon was a pink metal baseball bat, she alleged.

She told police she was going home after softball practice and was in the parking lot when Carillo appeared to be backing out. She blew the horn to prevent a collision. But Carillo allegedly put her car in park. The victim got out of her car to ask what she wanted, but Carillo came at her with a baseball bat, she alleged. Carillo also allegedly pulled off her rear view mirror.

Through a co-worker friend who could interpret Carillo allegedly told police the two know each other, and there has been a feud between their families. She was warned a fight was being arranged in Fall River, Mass., and when she saw the victim in the parking lot, she believed she was about to be attacked.

However, police also charged Carillo with two misdemeanors: Vandalism and Disorderly Conduct.
