Early Birds get Free Trees in Portsmouth Saturday

PORTSMOUTH, RI—Early birds will swoop by Town Hall on Saturday to collect a free tree thanks to the Portsmouth Tree Commission.

Seedlings are available for residents who stop by between 9 a.m. and noon.

Supplies are limited.

Species include black oak, eastern redbud, sugar maple and serviceberry.

The Portsmouth Tree Commission has doled out thousands of trees to locals over the years. Many that don’t end up on private property are planted on public property and at Portsmouth schools.

A steady stream of new tree plantings is vital to maintaining Aquidneck Island's urban and natural forests. New trees help replace trees that have died or suffered damage in storms.

Portsmouth Town Hall is located at 2200 East Main Road.
