
Portsmouth police made the following arrests this weekend.
Vehicle goes in reverse with officer holding on
Michael Yazel, 64, 47 Cottage Ave., Portsmouth, was arrested on June 29 at 9:30 p.m. and charged with DUI, refusal to submit to a chemical test, reckless driving, obstruction and resisting arrest. Police responded to reports of a vehicle operating erratically on East Main Road. The vehicle was later located on Park Avenue and seen swerving over the double-yellow lines. Police stopped the vehicle and detected a strong aroma of alcohol. The officer asked Yazel, the vehicle's operator, to exit the car. Yazel allegedly refused, put the car in reverse and attempted to drive away. The officer, standing outside the vehicle, reached into the car and attempted to place the vehicle into park while Yazel was trying to drive away. According to police reports, the vehicle traveled 15 feet before the officer managed to force the vehicle into park. Yazel then allegedly refused to get out of car, again. The officer forcibly removed Yazel from the car. He allegedly continued to resist arrest, but was handcuffed. Yazel also allegedly refused a chemical test at the police station. Â

David Dickens, 57, of Warwick, was arrested on June 28 at 1 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct. Police were called to Bristol Ferry Road near the Mt. Hope Animal Hospital to investigate a report of an intoxicated man standing in the roadway. At one point, police say, Dickens was lying on his side in someone's driveway. When the homeowner attempted to help Dickens, he allegedly attempted to punch the individual.
Two arrested at underage drinking party
Two individuals were arrested on June 29 after police investigated an apparent underage drinking part on Sakonnet Drive at 12:30 a.m. When police arrived, they discovered several containers of alcohol and several individuals inside the residence, including Lawrence Tashjian, 18, of 52 Sakonnet Drive, Portsmouth. Tashjian was arrested and charged with possession of alcohol and obstruction. Tashjian allegedly told police no one else was inside residence, trying to prevent police from seeing others inside. A bail violator, Tashjian was arrested and transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI).
Also arrested at the party was Philip Duckett, 19, of 470 Sandy Point Ave., Portsmouth. Duckett was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Police say Duckett was located inside a shed behind the property. Next to him, police found a prescription bottle with his name on it. Officers also found several pills, believed to be an Ecstasy-type substance, inside the bottle. Duckett was also wanted on a warrant for failure to appear at an ability-to-pay hearing.
Teen arrested on DUI charge after crash
Tyler Allott, 18, of 25 Jay St., Portsmouth, was arrested on June 29 at 1:30 a.m. and charged with DUI, refusal to submit to a chemical test and possession of alcohol by a minor. Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Park Avenue at Cedar Avenue. No injuries were reported. Police detected an aroma of alcohol from a vehicle, operated by Allott. Police also located a bottle of Captain Morgan, bottle of wine and Budweiser cans in bag in the vehicle. Allott failed a field sobriety test and allegedly refused a chemical test at the police station.
