No Further Charges Filed Against Middletown Teacher

Portsmouth police say "there is insufficient evidence to believe that any additional crimes have occurred in town."

The Portsmouth Police Department announced they have concluded their investigation into 39-year-old Middletown High School teacher Patrick Aylward. 

"As of right now, there is insufficient evidence to believe that any additional crimes have occurred in Portsmouth," said Det. Lt. Brian P. Peters. 

Portsmouth police charged Aylward with one account of domestic simple assault after he allegedly got into an argument with a 17-year-old female at the Founder's Brook Motel in Portsmouth on Feb. 17.

During the argument, he allegedly headbutted the girl, a student at Middletown High School. Police said the girl had visible swelling on her forehead. 

On March 14, Aylward pleaded not guilty to charges of simple domestic assault and was issued a no contact order. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for April 11.

The case remains under investigation with the Middletown Police Department and the Middletown Public Schools.
