Portsmouth Fire Ruled Arson: State Fire Marshal

The fire on Dexter Street on Friday morning has been ruled arson, the state fire marshal's office said.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — Friday morning's fire on Dexter Street has been ruled an arson, the state fire marshal's office said Monday.

"The cause of the fire is first-degree arson," said Michael Sweeney, chief of investigations. "We have a set fire. We are still investigating with the Portsmouth Fire Department." He referred other questions to Portsmouth Police.

People with information can call in tips at 401-383-7723. A reward is given if the tip leads to an arrest and conviction.

Police arrested one Dexter Street resident on Friday around 1 p.m. but in connection with illegal drugs.
