The initiative includes three enforcement and education programs, according to the post, listing them as the Crosswalk Compliance Program, which ensures drivers yield at school crosswalks, the Portsmouth STOPS Program that monitors traffic around school buses to protect students as they board and exit, and the Protecting Student Drop-Offs that assists with school drop-off traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
"Our officers, in partnership with the Portsmouth School Department and the RI Office on Highway Safety, are committed to keeping students safe as the school year gets underway," the post said, adding that, "We urge all motorists: slow down, pay attention, and always stop for pedestrians at crosswalks and when school bus lights are flashing."
