Tractor-Trailer Rolls-Over, Spills 18 Crushed Cars Onto I-95
The 18 cars, weighing between 2000 and 3000 pounds each, spilled onto both I-95 and an access road.
PROVIDENCE, RI — A tractor-trailer rolled over on Interstate 95 northbound in Providence, spilling 18 crushed and compacted cars it was carrying onto the highway, Rhode Island State Police said.
State police said the crash happened around 2:38 a.m. Monday. According to state police, the driver, a 65-year-old Cumberland man, was traveling north when he struck the barrier separating I-95 from the access road to Smithfield Avenue.
The tractor-trailer, registered to AGP Construction in Johnston, was carrying 18 compacted and crushed cars for scrap metal when it rolled over, state police said. The 18 cars, weighing between 2000 and 3000 pounds each, spilled onto both the highway and access road.

State police, and members of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and Department of Transportation helped with the investigation and cleanup of the highway.
All lanes of I-95 and the access road for Smithfield Avenue were reopened at 7:53 a.m., state police said.

State police said the driver did not suffer any injuries. He received several moving violations.
