More Heavy Rain on Deck For Next Two Days
Flood warning issued for approaching storm in Southern New England.
The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a flood watch for Smithfield and much of the Southern New England area starting tonight and lasting through Tuesday evening.
Rainfall will become heavy this evening, falling at a rate of 1 inch per hour. Rain will drop off briefly in the morning before increasing intensity in the afternoon and evening. An additional 1 to 2.5 inches of rain can be expected on top of the more than three inches the area received from the Friday/Saturday storm.
The National Weather Service warns urban, poor drainage and small stream/river flooding may occur during this time.
The Woonasquatucket River is presently at 3.66 feet, 1.34 feet below flood action stage, according to Smithfield EMA Director Todd Manni. The river topped out at 6.01 feet (minor flood) during the last storm and another rise can be anticipated.
