Smithfield Honors Fallen Soldiers at 2013 Memorial Day Ceremony

About 300 joined police and fire honor guards, local schools in honoring those fallen in service.

Fair weather at the tail of a long weekend graced Smithfield's annual Memorial Day ceremony Monday at the veterans memorial inside Deerfield Park.

American Legion Balfour-Cole Post 64 joined the Smithfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2929 and its Ladies Auxiliary in hosting this year's event, which included honor guards from the Smithfield Police and Smithfield Fire Department, and performances by the Gallagher Middle School chorus and Smithfield Chorus.
