Smithfield Police were called to Camp Shepard on Coleman Road June 22 for a report of two teenagers trespassing at the campground, finding the boys camping there without permission.
At about 5 p.m., Patrolman Ryan Perry and two other officers were dispatched to the campground. Perry spoke with Arthur Clausen, 45, who told them he'd seen two young men who were running into the campgrounds and had stopped them and told them not to go in there, according to Perry's report.
The young men, one 16-years-old, the other 17-years-old, told him "OK," he told Perry, and continued the way they were going.
Perry and the other officers were able to track down the boys, according to his report, finding them at a campsite and tent that appeared to be camping there. They boys told the officers they'd been there for two days, according to Perry's report.
Perry told the boys they could not camp at the site, and they replied they'd been unaware they were on private property. Perry told them if they returned, they would be arrested for trespassing. Perry also contacted the boys' parents to notify them of the situation.
