Smithfield's Fourth: Crowds, Faces, Fireworks

Smithfield's third Fourth of July celebration and fireworks display hosted at Bryant University Sunday night drew hundreds to Bulldog Stadium and areas around the campus for a stunning fireworks show courtesy of Pyrotechnico.

Outside on Rte. 7, Josh Hayes of Lincoln and  a Bishop Hendriken students Tim Wright and Eddie Gemma were the first to stake out a spot on Rte. 7 to watch Smithfield's Fourth of July fireworks at Byrant. The trio had a grill set up and had brought along hot dogs to tide them through the performance. "But we're all out," Josh said. They still had some supplies left - a box of Twinkie knockoffs.

Though some chose to set up on Rte. 7 to catch the display without braving the crowds, people on campus were able to enjoy music provided by the Northeast Navy Band from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., when the fireworks began.

Just inside the gates of Bulldog Stadium, lines of families were greeted by a living Statue of Liberty who slowly shifted her poses for smiling kids and parents who posed with her for photos. Performing as the living lady liberty was Katherine Bacon of TEN31 Productions.

Further in, the Northeast Navy Band kept the crowds entertained until the fireworks started up.
