Business Celebrates Toll Delay With Thank-You Sign

You're about to see a new sign outside the Hodges Badge Co. on East Main Road in Portsmouth.

The company recently printed a "thank-you" sign for anti-toll advocates, including the Tiverton STOP group and the Portsmouth Business Association. All Hodges Badge employees were invited to autograph the sign, which will now hang on the stone wall outside the East Main Road company.

Hodge Badge employees, many of whom live off island, rejoiced Thursday after the state Senate passed Article 20, ensuring no tolls on the Sakonnet River Bridge until at least April 1.

In a 36-6 vote, the senate approved the state budget that will take effect on July 1.

More than 40 percent of Hodges Badge employees cross the Sakonnet River Bridge for work. Rick Hodges, president, talks about his company's reaction in the video above.
