LETTER: Katz Twitter Comments Are Inappropriate
Resident Deborah Scanlon Janick sounds off about comments posted by candidate Justin Katz.

To the Editor:
Webster’s defines “oxymoron” as something that is made up of contradictory or incongruous elements. The TCC could easily slip in as an example. They talk the talk in public, but they certainly do not walk thewalk in private.

The most recent oxymoron occurred on a Twitter account. Just when he thought no one was looking,TCC founder and recommended School Committee candidate Justin Katz showed his true colors. Whenasked about his thoughts on Sandywoods Farm, his response was that it is a “good way to subsidizethe “right” kind of poor people.” When complimented on the beauty of Tiverton and how lucky he isto live here, he furthers his offensive comments stating that he lives “on the Fall River side of town.”When questioned about there being “sides of the tracks” in Tiverton, his response: “Every town hasthat. But you referenced my luck and Tiv’s beauty. Where I live, you’re not quite sure you’ve left FRyet.” As a lifelong North Tiverton resident, I am personally outraged and insulted! You have offendedmy family, my neighbors, my friends. We are all voters and will remember your biting words onNovember 6th. In a mere few key strokes, Mr. Katz has successfully disrespected a significant portion ofour community. He is attempting to continue in the ways of the TCC, to divide our town. Mr. Katz, youowe these voters a major mea culpa!
Does TCC’s Justin Katz sound like a person who could fairly represent all of our students? Do we reallywant him to make decisions regarding our schools, all of our schools, at all ends of town? We are onecommunity. We need candidates dedicated to the best interests of all of our citizens. We need to knowthat our elected officials will talk the talk AND walk the walk.
