Middletown Police Arrest Man Wanted For Stealing Cart From Casino

Roy Louis Farias, 50, of Fall River, Mass., was taken into custody Monday on West Main Road near Access Road. He was wanted in Tiverton.

MIDDLETOWN, RI—A traffic stop in Middletown led to the capture of a Fall River, Mass., man wanted by the Tiverton police. Roy Louis Farias, 50, was taken into custody on Monday at 9:45 a.m. at 1 Access Road, across from 939 West Main Road. According to Middletown police, Farias was driving a white work van when he swerved suddenly. He also was driving without headlights in a steady rain. When the police officer pulled him over and ran his drivers license, he saw an outstanding Superior Court warrant.

Farias said he had never been arrested in Rhode Island, but a call to Tiverton police confirmed he was wanted there. According to the Judicial Portal, Farias is being charged with felony Larceny (over $1,500) in connection with an incident that happened in August. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Newport Superior Court on April 12. The warrant was issued after he failed to appear.

He did appear at his arraignment in Newport on Monday and pleaded innocent. Tiverton police Chief Patrick Jones said the charge stems from the theft of a John Deere Gator, which is described as a heavy duty golf cart used to move around work sites. He estimated the value would be between $5,000 and $10,000.

At the same hearing, Farias also waived extradition. Patch is contacting Bay State prosecutors for additional information. Farias is the same man who faces larceny charges in Bridgewater, Mass., and other towns in Southeastern Massachusetts where he is accused of stealing snow blowers and other merchandise from several Home Depot stores.
