Newport Polo To Host Lufthansa Cup This Weekend

Newport will face off against Palm Beach on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 5 p.m. in the Lufthansa Cup, playing in a classic 6-chukker match against the home team, in the Newport International Polo Series.

Alex and Ani will host the Alex and Ani (+) Energy Polo Lounge, for an all-inclusive entertainment ticket option. A weekly door prize drawing will award two lucky winners a gift card, courtesy of Massage Envy. The match will be followed by a trophy presentation and cocktail hour to mingle with the players.

Dating back more than 130 years in Newport, the polo matches are a unique and popular summertime tradition, open to the public. Audiences of several thousand spectators enjoy cheering for the international guests, as well as teams representing major U.S. cities and of course the home team.   

Advanced ticket sales are available online; tickets are also sold at the entry gates on game day, opening at 1 p.m. The polo matches will run continuously every Saturday from June through September at 5 p.m. (4 p.m. in September).

The Polo Series takes place in the bucolic setting of Glen Farm, the last 100 acres of what was once a 700-acre manorial farm whose settlement dates back to the 1600's. Its classical stone barns from the
Gilded Age and its park-like grounds were rehabilitated by Keating and thrive today as an equestrian and community recreational property, and home of the Polo Series.
