Tiverton Police: DUIs, Drugs and Warrants

Under the Influence, Asleep and Driving
David Beard, 27, of 4 Wendys Drive Apt. 6, Westport, MA was arrested on Aug. 19 at 7:07 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test. received reports shortly before 7 p.m. that a green Honda was driving erratically on Stafford road. According to witnesses, the southbound car was passing cars on the left, nearly colliding with oncoming traffic and swerving. The car then came to a stop at the intersection of Stafford Road and Route 177, where witnesses approached the driver. The driver of the Honda - Beard - was allegedly asleep at the wheel with his foot on the break. When the witness, who drove a motorcycle, found beard he yelled at him until he woke up and convinced him to pull over and wait for police.After Tiverton Police arrived on scene, Beard was allegedly unable to complete a field sobriety test and police arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence. He refused to submit to a chemical test.Beard was arraigned in Second Division District Court on Aug. 20 and released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
Drunken Driving

Cynthia Souza, 43, of 34 Danforth St., Fall River, MA was arrested on Aug. 18 at 11:35 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a chemical test, refusal to submit to a preliminary breath test and numerous moving violations. According to reports, a police officer stopped Souza near the intersection of Stafford and Crandall roads because she was not wearing a safety belt. Police allegedly noted an odor of alcohol on her breath and she subsequently failed a field sobriety test. She was transported to police headquarters on Industrial Way where she refused breath tests. Souza was arraigned on Aug. 19, posted $1,000 bail with surety and was released with a court summons.

Daniel R. Babineau, 33, of 14 Primrose Lane, Westport, MA, was arrested on Aug. 23 at 4:28 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police noted signs that Babineau could be intoxicated after he was involved in a collision at the intersection of Conanicus Street and Fish Road. Babineau failed a field sobriety test and based on that he was taken to police headquarters where he refused breath tests.
Speeding Driver Leads To DUI
Brian E. Sessmann, 32, of 1700 West Main Road Apt. B, Middletown, was arrested on Aug. 25 at 3:20 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence and five moving violations. According to reports, police detected with radar that Sessman was speeding on Route 24, traveling at 90 mph in 55 mph zone. Police stopped Sessman's vehicle near the Main Road off ramp, after observing several roadway violations. After approaching the car, Sessman allegedly displayed signs of intoxication. On a preliminary breath test Sessman registered .105. Back at police headquarters a chemical test registered readings of .098 and .095. Sessman was charged and arraigned the next day by bail commissioner. He was released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
Driving Stoned
Andrew Shane Paiva, 23, of 281 Kearns Ave., Tiverton, was arrested on Aug. 25 at 8:56 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence, BAC unknown, possession of marijuana - a misdemeanor- and driving in possession of a controlled substance. Police alleged Paiva was operating his vehicle under the influence after the car he was driving struck a utility pole on Stafford Road. Paiva claimed he sneezed and jerked wheel to right, causing him to collide with the pole. Police however, located a quantity of marijuana in his front pocket and asked to take field sobriety test, which he failed. He was later transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he agreed to take a chemical test.Â
He was arraigned in district court and released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
Neighbor Dispute Gets Serious
Alexander Charles Buckley, 53, of 1314 Bulgarmarsh Road, Tiverton was arrested on Aug. 27 at 9:17 p.m. and charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana, first offense. According to reports, Buckley's neighbors - with whom he has an alleged ongoing dispute - contacted police shortly before 9 p.m. to complain that Buckley was flashing his truck's light's toward their property. While on route to Buckley's residence, police learned that Buckley was wanted by Second Division District Court on a warrant for failure to appear.Buckley allegedly became combative when police told him he was being arrested on the outstanding warrant. Reports described a brief struggle before handcuffing Buckley. After he was secured at Police headquarters, officers found a small quantity of marijuana in his pocket. He was held overnight and arraigned today in district court.
Bench Warrant
- Robert Greenwood, 35, of 750 East St., Brockton, MA, was arrested on Aug. 19 at 5 p.m. on a bench warrant from Pawtucket Police. Greenwood was taken into custody and released later that day to Pawtucket Police.
- John R. Corriveau, 45, of 50 Rhode Island Road, Lakeville, MA was arrested on a Second Division District Court bench warrant for failure to pay fines. He was arrested after the car he was riding in was stopped for a traffic infraction.
- Jennifer Burns, 37, of 107 Bogle St. Apt. 2, Fall River, MA was arrested on a Second Division District Court bench warrant on Aug. 22 at 1:31 p.m. after she was stopped for not wearing her seat belt on Shove Street. Burns was wanted on an active warrant for failure to pay and was taken into custody.
- Michael J. Jodoin, 38, of 910 Hope St., Bristol was arrested on warrant based on June 7 complaint where he allegedly wrote a fraudulent check in amount of $235.40 to a Stafford Road business. When the check was returned for insufficient funds, the business owner allegedly attempted to contact Jodoin to get the money, but was unsuccessful and called police. A warrant was issued and Jodoin was apprehended on Aug. 24. He was arraigned in district court and released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
- Lauren Theriault, 22, of 3455 North Main St., Fall River, MA, was arrested at Aug. 24 at 10:35 p.m. and charged with placing crank or obscene phone calls. The charge stems from an incident on Nov. 29, 2009 where Theriault's ex-boyfriend alleged she sent him numerous text messages and voicemail messages threatening to call the police on him and vandalize his car after he ended their three-week relationship.Theriault was arrested on the outstanding warrant, arraigned and released on $1,000 bail with surety.
