Tiverton Police Department: DUI Double Time, Marijuana and Warrants

DUI Double Time

Britani Santos, 21, of 246 North Falmouth Highway, Falmouth, MA, was arrested on July 22 at 3:29 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Santos reportedly crashed her car and was stopped in the construction zone near he new Sakonnet River Bridge. Police said she lost control of her white chevy SUV and drove through the marked-off construction area striking several jersey barriers. When police arrived on scene, Santos allegedly acted intoxicated and later failed a field sobriety test. 

As Tiverton Police arrested Santos, her friend Christopher H. Cox, 25, of 35 Sunset View Drive, Tiverton, drove up. Cox told police Santos called him to help her after she crashed her car, but as Cox was talking to police, officers noticed that he too was under the influence and arrested him as well.

Santos and Cox were transported to Tiverton Police headquarters on Industrial Way where they both refused a chemical test. Based on evidence, they were both charged with driving under the influence. 

Drunken-Driving Charge

Courtney Allard, 30, of 871 Broadway St., Fall River, MA, was arrested on July 20 at 2:18 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence, first offense, BAC unknown. Police stopped her vhicle on Main Road after she allegedly crossed the double yellow line on several instances. She failed a field sobriety test and was transported to Newport Hospital for a blood test. Results of toxicology tests are pending. 

Allard was arraigned in but no release information was available at press time.

Local Youth Arrested For Assaulting Mother With Knife

A 17-year-old Tiverton boy was arrested on July 20 at 6:46 p.m. and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism and disorderly conduct after he allegedly lost his temper during a family argument. According to reports, the boy destroyed several items in the home before grabbing a kitchen knife and stabbing the dining room table. He later allegedly threw the knife at his mother. Police were able to calm the boy down and take the knife way. They later arrested him and transported him to the state Training School in Cranston.

Arrested On Warrant

• Devin Souza, 21, of 93 PicardCourt, Swansea, MA, was arrested on July 20 at 10:18 p.m. after he was stopped for speeding on Route 24 North. A subsequent computer check showed that Souza was wanted for arrest on a Second District Division Court warrant for nonpayment of fines. No arraignment information was available at press time.
• Carl Harden, 28, of 47 Holden St. Apt. 2, Fall River, MA, was arrested on July 20 at 11:37 p.m. after he was stopped for speeding on Crandall Road. A subsequent computer check showed that Harden's license was suspended and that he was wanted on a warrant for nonpayment o fines. Harden was held without bail and transported to the Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston.
• Walter Cabral, 38, of 1020 Locust St., Fall River, was transported to Tiverton Police headquarters on July 21 at 5:13 a.m. after he was arrested fby Providence Police and transported to Tiverton to clear two outstanding warrants from 2007. He was held on bail and released on July 23.
• Chad Eric Taber, 40, of 56 Hargraves St., Fall River, MA was arrested on July 22 at 1:32 p.m. on a Sixth Division District Court bench warrant for nonpayment of court fees. He posted $1,340 at his arraignment and was released.
• Andrew Teixeira, 28, of 43 Margaret St., Tiverton, was arrested on Wednesday, July 25 at 5:30 p.m. on a bench warrant. Teixeira was involved in a car crash when police found he had an active arrest warrant. He was arraigned and released later that day after posting $336.50 for bail.
• Melissa Murphy, 31, of 803 Lake Road, Tiverton was arrested on Friday, July 27 at 9:34 p.m. on a Tiverton warrant. Murphy allegedly obstructed an officer in execution of duty earlier this year when she used her sister's identity after being stopped by police because she had an invalid license. She was arraigned and released on $1,000 personal regocnizance.
• Russell Browner, 42, of 103 Tecumseh St., Fall River, MA, was arrested on Saturday, July 28 at 2:14 p.m. after police learned he had two active bench warrants. Both warrants were for failure to appear - one from Superior Court and the other from Second Division District Court.
• Roseellen Schultz, 38, of 103 Tecumseh St. Apt. 2, Fall River, MA was arrested on Saturday, July 28 at 2:14 p.m. after police learned she was wanted by Second Division District Court for failure to appear.

Possession of Marijuana

Steven D. Mauricio, 20, of 512 Crandall Road, Tiverton, was arrested on July 24 at 1:10 p.m. and charged with possession of marijuana, first offense. During a police detail on the southern end of town, Det. Dan Martin noticed a suspicious white pickup truck with its door open and two passengers in the area of Weetamoe Woods. Based on the influx of break-ins in the area, Martin made contact with Mauricio and his passenger and notced marijuana and drug paraphernalia on the truck's center console.

Mauricio was arraigned in Second Division District Court later that day where surety bail was set at $200.

Domestic Assault

David L. Truver, 29, of 20 Main Road Apt. 1 was arrested on July 24 at 7:45 p.m. and charged with domestic simple assault. According to police, Truver's wife called police in fear for her safety after the couple got into an argument. When police arrived at the apartment, Truver's wife had a black eye, which she alleged happened when Truver punched her and dragged her by her hair during a fight several night earlier. Police placed Truver into custody.

Reckless, Drunk And Driving

Robert Ekstrom, 21, of 29 Kilburn St. Apt. 2, Fall River, MA, was arrested on Sunday, July 29 at 1:35 a.m. and charged with reckless driving, driving under the influence, first offense, BAC unknown, refusal to submit to a chemical test and possession of prohibited weapons other than firearms. According to reports, police stopped Ekstrom for speeding after watching him swerve in and out of lanes on Route 24 North. He allegedly smelled strongly of alcohol and failed a field sobriety test. Although he refused to participate in a chemical test at the station, Ekstrom reportedly registered a .172 on the preliminary breath test before being arrested.
