Tiverton Voters Back Budget Committee's Proposal

The difference was just 310 votes.

TIVERTON, RI -- Tiverton voters on Saturday backed the budget committee's proposal over the alternative budget offered by Justin Katz and the Tiverton Taxpayers Association. The Financial Town Referendum vote was 1,540 to 1,230. About 47 provisional (mail-in) ballots were also received.

Some 1,081 absentee and emergency ballots were cast Thursday and Friday at Town Hall. That tally went 673 for the budget committee and 408 for the alternative.

Saturday's vote at the high school came down to a difference of 45 votes. Two machines were used. One machine counted 330 for the budget committee and 328 for the alternative (a difference of two votes). The other machine counted 537 for the budget committee and 494 for the alternative.
