Tuesday: Breathalyzer Policy, Meetings and Percussion

Five things to know on Tuesday in Tiverton and Little Compton.

Weather: Tuesday will be another sunny day, with mild temperatures in the mid-60s. Overnight, clouds will roll in, according to the National Weather Service.

1. The Tiverton School Committee will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in the high school library, 100 North Brayton Road. The committee will take a vote on whether to adopt a breathalyzer policy for Tiverton High School students.

2. The Little Compton Beach Commission and the Little Compton Planning board do not meet tonight, they will convene on Tuesday Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall, 40 Commons, according to the town's website.

3. Get fit today at ABC Studio at Four Corners Fitness. Take Tai Chi today at 9 a.m. Classes cost $15.

4. Rhythm Quest Percussion, a youth-based percussion ensemble open to those ages 11 - 18 years old who wish to learn, play and perform within the community meets today at 6 p.m. at 235 High St. in Bristol. Sessions cost $25.

5. On this day in 1956 the original Sakonnet River Bridge opened, connecting Tiverton and the Sakonnet area to Aquidneck Island. Almost to the day 56 years later, the new Sakonnet River Bridge will be open to both lanes of traffic. On Sept. 20 the northbound lanes of travel opened to drivers and the southbound lanes are expected to open by Thursday, according to the state Department of Transportation.
