Currently, Patch does not have a local curator for Woonsocket (or Pawtucket!). However, in the interim, we still want to make sure you are up-to-date on all of your local happenings, so I am here to fill in! Although not a local, I will work diligently to keep everyone in the community informed. And, if you are interested in becoming the new local Woonsocket or Pawtucket curator, apply here.

Here are the top stories today in Woonsocket:

  1. CVS is planning a massive hiring event this Friday. CVS Health plans to fill 25,000 positions in its clinical and retail divisions. And, if you have been contemplating a move to Texas, 3,200 of the positions will be there. Interested? Get the ball rolling by texting “CVS” to 25000. (Focus Daily News)
  2. This youth hockey season is garnering attention. The efforts to bring elite players to the Woonsocket program over the course of three seasons have been noted. “Early season results indicate great parity among the teams ranked second through sixth.” (New England Hockey Journal)
  3. Could there be a pumpkin shortage on the horizon? Heavy summer rains in some areas typically associated with growing the Halloween staples have reported phytophthora blight. Never mind Halloween, will there be enough canned pumpkin for Thanksgiving? (Patch)
  4. Do you want to learn about “putting your garden to bed?” Would you like to do it from the comfort of your home? Join Bill Baddeley, a URI master gardener, on Zoom. Register for the event with the Woonsocket Harris Public Library. (@WoonsocketLibrary)
  5. Cincinnati-based Kroger has joined the Buy Safe America Coalition, of which Woonsocket-based CVS is already a member. The group looks for ways to “fight organized retail crime and protect consumers and communities from the sale of counterfeit and stolen goods.” If you want to do your part, tread carefully when buying heavily discounted items on e-commerce platforms. (Progressive Grocer)
