  1. The Harbour Youth Center at Community Care Alliance runs the Youth Summer Jobs Program. It is a summer work program that lasts five weeks and welcomes “young people (ages 14 to 24).” Right now, the program is looking to fill almost 100 positions for this year. All job sites are in Woonsocket. (Community Care)
  2. If you have a graduating senior of “Woonsocket High School, Woonsocket Area Career and Technical Center, North Smithfield High School, or Beacon Charter High School” in your home, read on! They have until May 2 to apply for the George Nasuti “Good Citizen” Scholarship. There are four scholarships for $1,000 each up for grabs. “Scholarships will be awarded to those students who have an extraordinary commitment to community service and who have demonstrated creativity in shaping their volunteer activities.” (The Valley Breeze)
  3. Do you remember that June 2021 structure fire in Warwick? At the end of last month, the Statewide Grand Jury indicted a 29-year-old Warwick resident “and charged him with first-degree arson.” He allegedly lived in the home. His arraignment is scheduled for April 22. (Patch)
  4. The plastic bag ban is closer to becoming law. “On Thursday, the Senate approved the legislation, long championed by President Dominick Ruggerio.” Hand in hand with this legislation is a bill the Senate approved “to exempt reusable bags from state sales tax.” If all goes as Ruggerio hopes, the ban goes into effect on the first day of 2024. 5. On Thursday, David Letterman (yes, that one) took the time to thank the staff at the RI Hospital. Last year, he spent time in Providence and tripped on a sidewalk. He hit his head, which left him unconscious. "It's the kind of thing where it was scary at the time, but because of the people in the emergency room helping me, it became sort of a fun little project," he said. (YouTube)
