  1. Brianna Henries responded after “the Woonsocket City Council and mayor came out against (her) bill to create multifamily housing in areas zoned exclusively for single family homes (a “single family zoning ban”.)” She referred to her bill as “ending a 20th century Jim Crow ban on apartments.” She took offense at having the Council President refer to her as “emotional” and “reactive,” and said that “this language is racist and misogynistic, and I’m sick of white politicians belittling young women of color for simply doing our jobs.” (@bhenriesri)
  2. Recently, the Woonsocket HS Class of 1971 met for its 50th reunion. We learned on Wednesday that part of the festivities was a fundraiser. The participants raised “$1,200 for the scholarship in honor of all the classes’ teachers.” (The Valley Breeze)
  3. You have an opportunity to participate in a “visual retreat.” Hosted by St. Agatha and Precious Blood parishes, it will take place “after the daily and weekend masses beginning Wednesday, March 2 and continuing through the Lenten season.” It is based on “the Eucharistic miracles compiled by Blessed Carlo Acutis.” (The Valley Breeze)
  4. St. James Episcopal Church and St. Mark Lutheran Church will host two Ash Wednesday services this week. St. James’ will be at noon and St. Mark’s at 7 p.m. (FB)
  5. The RI Department of Environmental Management is teaming up with the Woonsocket Harris Public Library to “take us on a virtual winter wonderland walk exploring local wild animals and their habitats.” This free program takes place Thursday via Zoom. Looking for a healthy alternative to that mid-week glass (or three) of wine? Our partners at Betera set out to create beverages that were sophisticated and flavorful enough to drink at cocktail hour but with zero hangover risk. (Their motto is “Drink like there’s tomorrow.”) Betera's drinks are designed by a Michelin-starred chef using natural botanicals — they're lightly effervescent, sippable, refreshingly bitter and at home in a stem glass or in a highball on the rocks. Betera offers three recipes — Rhubarb-Hibiscus, Elderflower-Lime and Ginger-Orange. We’ve tried all three and loved them equally — we recommend the mixed case as a great place to start.Betera has extended their 15% discount on first orders to Daily readers, in appreciation for the enthusiastic response so far.
