Here are the top stories in Woonsocket today:
- Update: The latest COVID-19 numbers are in. Rhode Island continues to have high daily numbers. The most recent showed 371 daily cases, which translates to 35 out of 100,000 contracting the virus. Providence County alone has seen an average of 190 new cases a day, which means that 30 people out of 100,000 have the virus. Fifty-nine percent of the county’s residents are vaccinated. Therefore, Woonsocket and the county are still considered high-risk venues. (NY Times)
- Did you see the cyclists? They were participants in the Bike to the Beach Ride that raises funds for non-profits. The trip took Boston University’s lacrosse teams from there to Woonsocket. When divvying up the funds raised, Amego Inc. will be receiving a share. (WPRI)
- If you saw more motorcycles than usual, too, it’s probably because of the second annual John Blain Memorial Bike Run. It was to honor the late biker, who died at the young age of 26. The American Legion Post 85 was instrumental in providing the venue. Funds raised during the event go to the “Johnathan Blain Memorial Scholarship fund for graduating seniors from the Woonsocket Area Career and Technical Center who are continuing their education in a trade-related field.” (The Valley Breeze)
