Curbside Yard Waste Pickup Returns to Woonsocket

Residents can start putting yard waste out to the curb beginning Monday, Sept. 28.

WOONSOCKET, RI—Yard waste pickup is returning to Woonsocket in just a few short days.

One- to three-family properties can begin to expect yard waste to be removed from the curb beginning Monday, Sept. 26, according a Michael Debroisse, superintendent of the Solid Waste and Engineering Department.

Yard waste must be placed in compost bags or in closed barrels clearly marked "YARD WASTE" and put on the curb on collection day by 7 a.m.

The drop-off site in Blackstone, MA, off Canal Street, continues to be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Saturdays. It's available for people with yard waste stickers, which can be obtained at City Hall in the Public Works Department office. They cost $25.

Residential properties in Woonsocket are included in the yard waste drop-off program.

But the curbside pickup is easy, so long as you follow the basic steps. Either use a sealed barrel or use tall sturdy paper yard waste bags and don't tape or secure them.

It's illegal to mix yard and household waste. And don't fill bags with large amounts of dirt. Yard waste is considered grass clippings, weeds, sticks and twigs and leaves.
