Here are the top five stories in Woonsocket today:
- Local emergency shelter options served 181 individuals during the last cold snap on January 12. The facilities that stepped up were the “family shelter run by CCA, a men’s shelter run by Harvest Community Church and motel vouchers organized through the city, CCA and Thundermist Health Center.” The Safe Haven drop-in center turned into an overflow venue Monday. The state’s funding for the emergency winter shelters ends on March 31. (The Valley Breeze)
- There was a wrong-way accident on Route 146 South Thursday. Three vehicles were involved in the collision north of the Admiral Street off-ramp. A 20-year-old Pawtucket woman was at the wheel of the car going the wrong way. She had a “blood alcohol content over 0.15.” (Patch)
- Mount Saint Charles has a job opening! Because Mrs. Polseno is heading to Florida, her position is now open. If you have the qualifications to become a Library Media Specialist, the school wants to hear from you! (@MtStCharles)
- The business of the day is The Gym LLC at 2168 Diamond Hill Road. You know it as a sponsor of the George Nasuit Novans Pride 5k fundraiser. It is also home of the Drumming class involving exercises balls and BOSUs. (@WoonsocketRadio, The Gym LLC)
- On Friday, the Parks Department issued its usual warning that ponds aren’t safe for anyone with ice skates. The experts warn that there’s “no such thing as 100 percent safe ice.” If you have a hankering for some ice fishing or even skating, find out about local ice conditions by contacting “the DEM's 24-hour ice information line at 401-667-6222.” (Patch)
