Here are the top stories today in Woonsocket:

  1. The state has required health care workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or forfeit their jobs. The deadline was Friday. “Nearly 98% of Lifespan’s workforce is partially or fully vaccinated.” Care New England reports that 97% of is workers have the vaccination. However, there are currently 92 facilities that received an extended deadline until Halloween to “have 100% of their staff fully vaccinated.” (The Public’s Radio, List of Facilities)
  2. The correctional officers' union is suing on behalf of its 4,000 members. Of those who filed the action, one was Denina Dunn, from Woonsocket. They are mandated to be fully vaccinated by October 17, but want to have the freedom to say no to the jab without fear of job loss. (List 23)
  3. The Atumnfest Steering Committee is looking for volunteers to make the celebration a success. You don’t need any special skills. It also doesn’t matter how old you are. In fact, “youth organizations are encouraged to volunteer.” (Valley Breeze)
