Welcome to the Woonsocket Daily! This is your five-minute guide to the most important things going on in town.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, neighbors! Sylvia here with the Tuesday issue of the Woonsocket Daily.

In what appears to be a game of hot potato, there’s no consensus on what will happen to unvaccinated firefighters and health care workers. Also, Morin Heights will soon be under the microscope.

Here are the top stories in Woonsocket today:

  1. Update: There is still no clarification on what will happen to unvaccinated firefighters. Even though a judge did declare the October 1 deadline valid, officials are not enthusiastic about taking away unvaccinated firefighters’ EMT licenses. For Woonsocket, this is a small number of professionals. If Providence’s treatment of their firefighters gives any clues, Woonsocket’s own could remain on the job and do their usual assignments. Conversely, if North Providence is any indication, they could be suspended without pay. (WPRI)
  2. In other news, Governor Daniel McKee might offer Woonsocket’s unvaccinated health care workers, who are employed by the state, an out. He noted that his administration “would try to find new assignments” because “he doesn't want to put people out of work.” There is talk of putting them into another department. Moreover, the governor would like hospitals and other health care organizations to do the same. (The Hour)
  3. Woonsocket Housing Authority Executive Director Robert Moreau plans to spend $244,188 on improving the security at Morin Heights. This includes “a new camera system and traffic enforcement on Morin Heights Boulevard.” The goal is to have more than 50 cameras with around-the-clock monitoring as opposed to the current four. The 300-apartment development had 72 emergency calls between January 1 and August 12. (The Valley Breeze)
