Welcome to the Woonsocket Daily, your source for the latest on all things Woonsocket.

(Patch Media)

Welcome back, Woonsocket! It's Friday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on today in Woonsocket.

Is it true that getting healthy food in Woonsocket is not as easy as it could be? Also, you don’t hear “do you know who I am” only in Hollywood. Finally, attending the Veterans Association’s fundraiser is de rigueur.

Currently, Patch does not have a local curator for Woonsocket (or Pawtucket!). However, in the interim, we still want to make sure you are up-to-date on all of your local happenings, so I am here to fill in! Although not a local, I will work diligently to keep everyone in the community informed. And, if you are interested in becoming the new local Woonsocket or Pawtucket curator, apply here.

Here are the top stories today in Woonsocket:

  1. Is Woonsocket a “healthy food desert?” It means that two of five neighbors have a hard time getting affordable foods. Causes may be “financial struggles or a lack of transportation access, or both.” Authors also point to the “small Price Rite tucked away in the far northeast corner” being the only game in town – in addition to the Tuesday Farmer’s Market. (Vice)
  2. Did Ronald Landry, the current chief of the Millville Police Department who also worked as an officer for the Woonsocket PD, speed? The Millville Board of Selectmen now has to figure out “what actions, if any, to take.” It refers to a September 11 incident on Sweet Avenue and Cass Avenue. The patrol officer who pulled Landry over clocked a speed of “at least 60 miles per hour in a 25 mile-per-hour zone.” Allegedly, Landry played the “do you know who I am” card. (The Valley Breeze)
  3. The St. Joseph Veterans Association is hosting a Fall Funtastic craft and vendor fair. Show up on Sunday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 99 Louise Street. There will be shopping, food, fun, and games. This is a fundraiser to benefit the group. (Facebook)
