Here are the top stories in Woonsocket today:
- CVS has another problem. A “CVS Health Corp. executive acknowledged in court that some of the company’s U.S. pharmacies filled illegitimate opioid prescriptions for almost a decade.” However, he did not agree that there was a “widespread failure to monitor” the ongoing sales of the addictive substances. Another development was the statement that Woonsocket-based CVS “had settled multiple state and federal probes over opioids” from 2008 to 2016. (Bloomberg Law)
- Even so, CVS announced a “quarterly dividend of fifty cents” per Common Stock share. If you are the owner of record by October 22, expect a payment by November 1. The board of directors has approved the dividend. (ABC 12)
- How should the Attorney General and Director of the Department of Public Safety draft the statewide body-worn camera program? The public is invited to weigh in. There are Zoom meetings on Tuesday, 10-12. (OnWorldwide)
- If you don’t feel good about the Woonsocket Autumnfest on Monday, consider that Native Green is celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day Rhode Island. Taking place at the Pawtucket Veterans Memorial outdoor Amphitheater (Roosevelt and Exchange Streets), there will be speakers. Visit from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (Valley Breeze)
- However, if you do head over to Pawtucket, you will miss out on The Eagles Experience (tribute show to The Eagles) in Woonsocket. Then again, they are performing Saturday. On Sunday, there is Chicago Total Access, which is a tribute band for Chicago. (OnWorldwide)
