  1. Four of Woonsocket’s Finest were promoted last week, Friday. They were Deputy Chief Thomas Calouro, Lieutenant Matthew Oliver, and Sergeants Michael Theroux and Matthew Derham. “It’s extremely encouraging to see officers sworn in years ago, and they’re still here. It’s an indicator that they’re here to serve the city, and as they’re promoted it allows other people to move up. Any motion within a department is good,” said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. Congratulations! (The Valley Breeze)
  2. Father Boris Kroner at St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church led a service on Thursday. The goal was to give parishioners and church leaders an opportunity to gather and “pray for Ukraine and its people as Russian forces invade.” (@CalDymowski)
  3. A parking ban went into effect Thursday evening at 9 p.m. It is open-ended, until further notice. So, move your vehicles! (City of Woonsocket)
  4. We learned Wednesday that the Woonsocket School Committee voted in favor of making “mask-wearing by students & staff VOLUNTARY in district buildings & classrooms.” This change goes into effect on March 7. However, because of the federal mandate, students still have to wear masks on school busses. (@WoonsocketRadio)
  5. What else did the school committee discuss? At the Wednesday meeting, attendees once again talked about “amendments to the District’s Bullying Policy.” Other topics of discussion were the “Superintendent’s recommendation not to renew certain probationary teachers” and “revisions to secondary regulations (graduation requirements).” (Woonsocket Radio)
