Here are the top stories in Woonsocket today:

  1. The Woonsocket City Council censured Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt for violating the city’s Home Rule Charter. In a vote of 5-2, this move could pave the way for the mayor’s removal from office. “It’s really gotten to the point where we can’t take it anymore,” said Council Member Denise Sierra. Baldelli-Hunt had no comment. Future violations could lead to impeachment. (WPRI)
  2. After spending $56 million on a new water treatment plant, operators say that Woonsocket will have the best water in the state. It is said to work “like a giant Brita filter.” The plant off Jillson Avenue has been testing its output since July to meet the state’s standards. At long last, it is ready to act as Woonsocket’s primary water supplier. Among other things, the plant removes manganese, recaptures “about 5 percent of all discharge from the filtering process to return to the system as clean water,” and discharges waste into the sewage treatment system rather than the Blackstone River. (The Valley Breeze)
  3. The Landmark Medical Center presented the Joe Andruzzi Foundation with the profits of its 2021 Golf Tournament fundraiser. Landmark is on record stating that it “is happy to support such an important organization that benefits cancer patients.” (Landmark Medical Center)
