Here are the top stories in Woonsocket today:
- Update: Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt is in favor of the microloft apartments proposed for the vacant Hospital Trust building at 162 Main Street. It aligns with the recent effort “of city officials trying to attract investment to the Main Street area.” To make the project happen, Red Brick Companies are requesting substantial tax incentives from Woonsocket as well as RI. (The Valley Breeze)
- Governor Dan McKee announced that health care workers will be under a COVID-19 vaccination mandate. Woonsocket staff members at state-licensed health care facilities have until October 1 to get their vaccinations. Critics oppose the deadline, arguing that, “front-line workers who have been working tirelessly to keep Rhode Islanders healthy and safe over the past year and a half shouldn’t risk losing their jobs” if they refuse vaccinations. (WPRI 12)
- Woonsocket will observe the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack with a memorial observance. It will take place at the Woonsocket Fire Department Headquarters at 5 Cumberland Hill Road. Residents are invited to attend the 8:30 a.m. event. (City of Woonsocket)
- Kendall Cooper Casting is seeking extras for the filming of Hocus Pocus 2. However, RI residents need to be flexible. All filming locations have not yet been revealed. Apply to be an extra! (Rhode Island Monthly)
- Woonsocket’s own Aisha Felix has found a creative outlet to chronicle her struggle with mental health. The published author wrote “My Crazy Life.” Pawtucket’s Stillwater River Publications published the memoir. Felix hopes that “her story reaches others battling mental health diagnoses who might find solace in her words.” (The Valley Breeze)
