Monday Five: Council, Trash Bills, Yard Waste Pickup, Poetry, Rabies Clinic

Welcome to another Monday, and check out these things to know:

 

City Council - The Woonsocket City Council meets tonight at 7 p.m. in the second floor conference room of City Hall for a work session discussion, "regarding Budget Commission matters," according to their agenda.

Trash bills - The City's Solid Waste Division reminds property owners the fourth payment is due for their trash and recycling collection service by May 3, 2013. Current amounts due must be paid in full. Late payments are subject to penalty fees.

Per Ordinance 11-O-2 (revised and approved 2/11): No property serviced by the City for solid waste, recyclables and yard waste collection shall be collected unless assessed Solid Waste fees for the property are current.

No property serviced by the City for waste collection shall be issued a ‘Bulk Item’ sticker or a ‘White Good’ sticker or a ‘Yard Waste’ sticker unless assessed Solid Waste fees for the property are current.

Yard waste pickup - City  for 1-3 family properties, is back in effect, and will continue through Friday, June 21. 

The DPW Solid Waste Dvision reminds residents to place yard waste in compost bags (do not use any kind of tape to secure the bags closed) or closed barrels (with lids) clearly marked “YARD WASTE” and leave them curbside on your collection day by 7 a.m.

Poetry month - To honor National Poetry Month in April, the Friends of the Woonsocket Harris Public Library are sponsoring the library’s annual poetry contest. Poems may be submitted at the library until April 27. The limit is two submissions per person. Submissions will be accepted by e-mail at efuqua@woonsocketlibrary.org . Please include name, address, and phone number. Students should include name, phone #, grade, school, and teacher’s name. First, second and third prizes will be awarded in each age category. Winners are invited to share their poems at the library's Open Mic Poetry Night at the Library on Wednesday, May 29, 7-8:30 p.m.

Rabies Clinic May 4 - The Woonsocket Animal Shelter, sponsored by and in conjunction with the RI VMA (RI Veterinary Medical Association) will hold a Rabies Clinic May 4 at Woonsocket Animal Shelter, 105 Cumberland Hill Road from noon to 1:30 p.m. Bring your dogs, cats, and ferrets, and $12 per animal.

The licensing clerk from City Hall will also be there to renew and or issue dog licenses.
