Police Log: Man Arrested After Woman Catches Him Stealing From Father's Car

The following arrest information was provided by the Woonsocket Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Todd Joseph Green, 41, added bad timing to bad judgement when he went through Craig Benoit's car Nov. 26 at about 10:28 p.m.

As luck would have it, Benoit's daughter, Jessica, was just arriving at the 211 Linden St. address when she noticed a tall, skinny man wearning black pants and a hooded sweatshirt with a white shirt underneath leaving her driveway, entering a cut-through to Diamond Hill Road. She walked up the driveway and found her father's 1991 Firebird with both its doors open.

Jessica ran into the house, told her father about the theft and followed the man through the cut-through, finding him pacing on St. Leon Ave. near Diamond Hill Road, and called police.

Three Woonsocket Police officers responded to the address, and one of them located Green on St. Leon Avenue. He was carrying two small flashlights, a headlamp, touchup paint, two bottles of Axe colongne, a box of condoms, a screwdriver and a TomTom GPS unit worth $200.

Green claimed all the items were his, but Craig Benoit identified the flashlights and screwdriver as his. Police also identified the TomTom unit as stolen from another person.

Green was arrested and charged with receiving stolen goods and larceny of less than $1,500.
