Police hunting for clues to people responsible for two explosions at annual race.

Dozens of people were injured and two were reportedly killed by two explosions near the Boston Marathon finish line Monday at about 2:50 p.m.

Several Rhode Islanders were running the Marathon Monday which was observed as Patriots Day in Massachusetts. Woonsocket's sole runner, Courtney Gardner, reports she's all right. One Newport runner suffered a leg injury, though it was not life-threatening. Her name has not been released.

“This is a horrific day in Boston," Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick said. "My thoughts and prayers are with those who have been injured. I have been in touch with the President, Mayor Menino and our public safety leaders. Our focus is on making sure that the area around Copley Square is safe and secured. I am asking everyone to stay away from Copley Square and let the first responders do their jobs.”

At Monday night's City Council meeting, councilors expressed support for Marathoners and Boston and dismay at the senseless violence. "There's nothing more American, in my opinion, than Patriot's Day, said Councilman Albert Brien. Our hearts, our prayers and our thoughts go out to those people who were victims of that total, complete, unnecessary disaster this afternoon."
