- Wastewater Leak Update: A short while ago, we talked about the partially untreated sewage that leaked into the Blackstone River. We learned Thursday that an investigation started because of an anonymous tip. For about four days, residents were warned against going into the river. At this time, officials are looking into the causes of the leak. According to the Director of Public Works, “it was a mechanical malfunction that turned into a biological malfunction, but at no point did raw sewage ever leave the plant.” (The Call, The Valley Breeze)
- A shoutout to Steven Silva! He won the “$300 cash prize in our 2022 Valley Breeze/O-N Radio ‘Radio Squares’ Contest.” (WoonsocketRadio)
- The Brickle Group’s headquarters are at 235 Singleton Street. We learned on Thursday that the company is “donating 9,000 blankets to UNHCR USA for distribution to those displaced by the Ukraine War. The blankets are currently being loaded onto a truck at Northwest Woolen Mills to be picked up (Friday) morning.” (@EthanLopezNews)
- The Rhode Island Blood Center needs donations of platelets. “Platelets help produce blood clots to control bleeding. They’re most often needed by cancer patients.” “For every blood donation made during the month of April, the Rhode Island Blood Center will contribute one dollar to help Ukrainian refugees.” (ABC)
- Mark your calendars! The Ernest A. Carignan Jr. Memorial Fishing Derby is scheduled for this Saturday from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. It is a “tournament for local boys and girls ages 12 and younger, which is sponsored by the Woonsocket Elks Lodge #850 and Woonsocket Parks & Recreation Department.” Head on down to Cass Park with your youngster for fun, prizes, and “free hot dogs and beverages.” (The Valley Breeze)
