Here are the top stories in Woonsocket today:

  1. A shout-out to educator and “scholar support specialist” Jeffrey Wright! He elaborates on the challenges faced as a Black teacher, school employee, and parent go-to contact. 2. A 19-year-old man from Woonsocket was sentenced in Providence County Superior Court to five years at the Adult Correctional Institutions. The suspect’s “no contest” plea ends the case that began with his 2020 arrest by the Woonsocket Police Department while in possession of 4.6 grams of fentanyl, a Taurus G3c 9 mm illegal handgun, and drug paraphernalia. (On Worldwide)
  3. Headquartered in Woonsocket, CVS is drawing the ire of The Women Project. The group demands that CVS will “make a public commitment to stop giving money to any lawmaker using their power to undermine access to abortion and put up barriers to reproductive healthcare.” Records show that the company donated $72,500 to sponsors of SB 8. The Women Project is urging residents to take various protest actions. (UpriseRI)
  4. St. Joseph Senior Citizen's Club meets again. The event is scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the church’s hall, 1200 Mendon Road. If you have not been completely vaccinated but want to attend, please wear a mask. (The Valley Breeze)
