- “Trust in Me” is a contemporary Christian song recorded by Woonsocket's Savannah Hayleigh Williams. Her voice has been described as “velvety” and “rich.” Why does this matter? Because she’s a 10-year-old 5th grader at Bernon Heights Elementary. While the video has been out since January 23, we learned last Tuesday that her teachers set up a cafeteria viewing for all her friends. Great job!!! (Pressreader)
- Woonsocket High senior Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan is an all-around athlete. While competing at Saturday morning’s Class A boys’ indoor track and field championship meet, he became the “shot put champion with a throw of 65 feet.” This feat broke a “51-year-old meet record by six feet, eight inches” and put him ahead of the runner-up by “an astounding 17½ feet.” Wow. (The Valley Breeze)
- A 45-year-old homeless man has become a serial car thief. We learned last Tuesday that he stole two cars in one week. The PD recently found him sleeping in a “stolen vehicle on Main Street.” Before that, he stole a car and drove to Orchard Street to settle a score with a former neighbor. (Pressreader)
- The Museum of Work & Culture will host Remembrance 2022 as a virtual event. Titled “Executive Order 9066 and Its Legacies,” there will be “a virtual conversation on the legacies of Japanese internment.” Ken Nomiyama, who was born in an internment camp, and Jim McIlwain, who has studied Japanese American history, will discuss the issues. (RIHS)
- If you’re a Catholic, the “United Nurses and Allied Professionals, a union representing more than 7,000 nurses and health professionals” wants you to stop giving money to the Church. The group asserts that the Diocese of Providence has neglected to meet its “moral and financial obligation to the retired nurses and healthcare workers from St. Joseph’s and Our Lady of Fatima hospitals.” “Bishop Tobin and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence allegedly failed to properly fund their own nurses and health care workers’ pension system for a decade,” which led to a lawsuit. All named defendants, except the Diocese, have settled. (On Worldwide)
