- What are the FLY classes that are offered at the YMCA every Tuesday and Thursday? We learned on Thursday that they are by the Financial Literacy Youth Initiative in Rhode Island, the brainchild of Marcy Reyes, who champions equity in financial literacy education. “The FLY curriculum is filled with practical activities that include filling out tax forms, using a bank simulator, identifying different kinds of investments and investment opportunities, budgeting, and more.” (The Valley Breeze)
- Do you remember “the construction and renovation of RISE Prep Mayoral Academy in Woonsocket in 2018 and 2019?” A Thursday press release revealed that Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha is charging the owner of a now-defunct construction company involved in the project “with one count of obtaining money under false pretenses over $1,500, one count of unlawful appropriation over $1,000, one count of providing false certified payroll documents, and 12 misdemeanor counts of wage theft.” He is alleged to have stolen “over $93,000 in wages from workers.” (Uprise RI)
- We learned on Monday that Officer Connor Doyle of the Woonsocket PD helped deliver a baby girl a month ago. Together with Patrolman Justin Ryeland and two firefighters, they responded to a call at 2:30 a.m. where they found “a woman covered in blood.” “The baby was born at just 25 weeks.” (ABC)
- Do you remember last year, when “the Mount St. Charles lacrosse team won the Division IV title?” Now in Division II, they took on “unbeaten Cumberland on Friday afternoon.” A 15-11 win ensured that Cumberland no longer has a perfect record. (The Providence Journal)
- Mark your calendars! If you’ve ever wanted to participate in a real Revival Meeting, plan on visiting the Firm Foundation Christian Church on May 14. The “spring revival will take place in the church parking lot beginning at 10 am and continuing until 2 pm with a short lunch break. Rain or shine.” (Patch)
