Here are the top stories in Woonsocket today:
- There was a stabbing in the area of Mason Street and Second Avenue. A 27-year-old Pawtucket resident received multiple stab wounds Tuesday night. The victim named a 24-year-old Woonsocket man as his attacker. He was arrested “hiding under a blanket inside a small crawl space above” his girlfriend’s closet. He is now charged with “assault with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct, and obstruction.” The girlfriend is facing charges of obstruction and lying to the cops. (WPRI)
- C. Savath of Woonsocket was charged with "two counts of wire fraud." She used to own Thai Body Work, which was a massage parlor in Franklin. Authorities say that Savath “submitted fraudulent applications to the Small Business Administration (SBA) for COVID-19 relief through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) program under the CARES Act.” She ran afoul of the certification by falsely claiming that she was not engaged in any illegal activity, even though her employees “engaged in prostitution with customers.” (Dept. of Justice)
- Brittney Simard of Woonsocket will finally have the opportunity to act as Cecily Cardew in Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest.” Put on hold in March 2020, it is now going to run at the RISE Playhouse from October 15 to 24. (Broadway World)
- The Woonsocket Harris Public Library will host Family Music with Anne Marie Forer of Tunes & Tales this fall. Target dates are Friday, 9-24, 10-8, and 10-22 starting at 11 a.m. This is an opportunity for parents to bring preschoolers, engage in rhythm play, and encourage little ones to explore motion. (On Worldwide)
