- A bill to name the post office in Slatersville after a fallen soldier has been approved by the U.S. Senate. Army Specialist Matthew R. Turcotte of North Smithfield was with the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division when he was killed in August 2017 during a live ammunition training exercise at Fort Carson in Colorado. Turcotte was 20. (Army Times)
- A violent weekend in Providence left one dead, five shot, and several people stabbed. Police identified the victim of a fatal shooting early Sunday as a Warwick woman. (WJAR)
- Rhode Island is now considered to be a "high transmission" zone for COVID-19, according to the CDC. On Monday, RIDOH reported 400 new cases since data was last released on Friday. However, there were no virus-caused deaths over the weekend. (WPRI)
- Elsewhere in Rhode Island, after a four-year legal fight, a Coventry women was sentenced to prison Monday in connection with a deadly 2017 hit-and-run. Shannon Holden was accused of striking Sarah Balmforth, who was out walking her dog in Exeter, and leaving the scene.
- Rhode Island gas prices now stand at $3.04 for a gallon of regular. AAA
Northeast predicts that high gas prices are here to stay in Southern New England. (Patch)
